Day 14 - Lake Havasu City to Grand Canyon

This is the first hotel we've had a 'proper' breakfast, all the other places we opted out of breakfast as it either wasn't served early enough or just wasn't worth eating.  This place offered cereal, porridge (oatmeal) coffee, juice and a waffle maker and was served from 6am.

First stop: a drive over London Bridge - The bridge was built in the 1830s and formerly spanned the River Thames in London, England. It was dismantled in 1967 and relocated to Arizona as it was not sound enough to support the increased load of modern traffic. The Arizona bridge is a reinforced concrete structure clad in the original masonry of the 1830s bridge, which was bought from the City of London. The exterior granite blocks from the original bridge were numbered and transported to America to construct the present bridge in Lake Havasu City. The bridge was completed in 1971.

and then a quick virtual before stopping off at Walmart for supplies and hitting the road.

It's really surprising just how long and straight the roads are out here.  Yet another long road without any stop or turns.  The first one was 156 miles until we needed to turn off.

We decided to stop off and stretch our legs on the way and rather conveniently there was a virtual situated at Seligman.

We arrived at Grand Canyon National Park just after midday and sailed straight in as we already had our passes.

We knew we were going to be short on time and luckily we'd done a bit of research on which shuttle bus we needed so without further ado we hopped straight on and got off at all the viewpoints, some of them had virtuals so we'd hop off and then wait for the next bus which usually came along every 10 mins or so.

The Grand Canyon is a place I have always wanted to visit but never thought I would actually get to see it so standing there looking down into the abyss, over a mile down to the Colorado river I felt very emotional, such an amazing opportunity to be able to witness this amazing sight first hand.  Any photos that I have taken just do not do this place justice, it really is incredible.

We watched the sunset at Mojave Point before catching the bus back in the dark to the visitor centre parking.

We hadn't packed any food to take with us as so we were really hungry but also keen to get to our hotel to prepare for the next day so we just stopped off at Maccys for something quick.

Tomorrow Monument Valley.
